Winds of Autumn

As I try to rescue the last
The winds come down in a blast
No longer summer--the days are shorter
Autumn's splendid colors beg us to court her

Gone is the green from many a stalk
No birds left on the branches to talk
Gold and brown--yellow and red
Yes winter is coming some do dread

Clasp the splendour close to your breast
Only the wind will not take a rest
Watch it move here--watch it move there
Winding and wandering with nary a care

It brightens and heightens the color of leaves
Such outstanding beauty it's hard to believe
As it passes through foliage--with a sigh
Pushing leaves aside it widens the sky

The wind is as joyful as I
With autumn here emotions run high
For soon the wind will be--blustery and cold
Winter comes early so I'm told.
