Within Our Eyes

Can you see the despair within our eyes?
Our souls fall apart, oh this just can't be
How many more negroes have to die?

Racism comfortably abides
These corrupted white men took you from me
Can you see the despair within our eyes?

Parting out the door, our heartstrings untied
We apologize for our “monstrosity”
How many more negroes have to die?

Illness fills the air. I watch my loved ones die
We say, “come here my dear, we have to leave”
Can you see the despair within our eyes?

Side by side, our drained souls are all in line
It's not blind to see that we all have to grieve
How many more negroes have to die?

Forever together, our souls in the sky
In beautiful harmony, we wish for peace
How many more negroes have to die?
Can you see the despair within our eyes?
