Words To Measure A Life

A hundred people in a room
my eyes are drawn to you.
It takes me a minute to realize
your eyes are drawn to me too.

New Year, gold dress, off-limits, friend's ex.
My intrigue and your advance
it takes me an hour to realize
my logic doesn't stand a chance.

I meet you in sweet dreams at night
your place, my lips, your skin.
It takes me a month to realize
I really let you in.

I'm not for you, you're not for me
so we make and take a life.
It takes me a year to realize
I've got to put down the knife.

You go on like nothing's wrong
I will never fill the void.
It will take you a lifetime to realize
the value of what we destroyed.
