work in progress
i am black woman first.
third i am black,
second i am woman.
my grandmother knew all, my grandmother knew magic.
at my birth my grandmother cried and said,
"she will be sad. her life will be short and sad."
i am half and half:
half of this, half of that,
all of nothing.
once, i am perfect. i am whole and cherished.
i am what i have always been, sexual and free and happy.
my grandmother's magic says I am perfect however i am.
once, my child self was told that i would lose much,
and i would have much.
i have been written, by my mother and my grandmother.
i have all and so i pretend at nothing, half here and half dream.

I am currently an interior designer in Los Angeles, CA by way of Minnesota by way of Malawi. My sister Katie aka. Best partner in crime ever, makes it possible for me to do any and everything. This poem started with a dream. Marshmallows and all carbs and startches are the best things in life. Bring good beer or red wine and we'll be friends for eternity.
