Yellow Cup

I walk into a room and sense your brightness from the entry way
Such a joyful color for such a sinister thing
I look inside you and as usual
You contain a seemingly benign translucent aqueous
A simultaneous feeling of dread and hopefulness well within me
I poke my nose around your rim and breathe in
To be safe in my accusations I take a sip
You tell no lies to my taste buds and I swallow down the alcohol along with my despair
My father continues to enjoy your company much more than mine
I trace my fingers along your black lettering, unable to make out the words from years of use
As I set you gently back down on the table, so as not to leave a trace of my presence
I can’t help but notice how you glow
While bathed in the stream of golden sunlight from the window
How bright you appear for the dark sickness you facilitate
