You and I

I sit there looking into your eyes
I beg for you to understand
You scan the words
Your mouth painstakingly utters its sounds
You gaze at me for help
I wish I could pull the cloud of haze away
You tell me your worst fears
I'm compelled to lie that they will never be confirmed
But I know
I am ahead of you in life by a few small years
And I'm terrified
For you
I can't ask you to try
You are clearly exerting yourself
I need to tell you that you are perfect
I want to hug you tight
I need to assure you that you can succeed alone
I want you to accomplish on your own
Your voice lacks confidence
Your sentences are rich with feeling
I want you to know I care, want you to know I love
You ask me a great question
I am so proud
I urge you, I dream for you, I set goals for you
We will succeed together.
