You Are My Sunshine
Bedtime is coming, let's get ready.
Pajamas on, do you have your teddy?
Turn the lights out, Television off.
"Son, you're so tired." I scoff.
It has been an eventful day, with you running and playing.
But it's time to settle down, I need to be praying.
As I tuck you in, your arms fly up.
I know you want to cuddle, my buttercup.
I rock you until your eyes drift to sleep.
You try to fight it, and I hear your faint, little weep.
So I sing your favorite tune, this will surely work.
Once I hear your tiny snores, I force a tired smirk.
My body is tired, but my heart is full.
You won't be this little for long, soon you'll be starting school.
This year has gone too fast,
I should have known it wouldn't last.
But one thing is for sure, I hope you'll always know.
You are my sunshine, no matter how big you grow.
