You Live

Under the starry skies, we walked, we talked.
The rocks they bent, the seas they screamed. Under
the starry skies, the morning cried and stalked
a beard of clouds they framed in mad wonder.
A mourning moon erupted sleep, impelled
a dream to end abruptly--and we talked,
we laughed, we cried, we kissed, we loved, and smelled
the sweat, the salt of skin, as darkness stalked.

It found you--death. Your eyes they closed today.
My eyes, they burn from tears like salt in rain.
Your body burning, ashing, your soul it stays;
it stays by me to hold broken pain.
In dreams we walk, we talk, we love, we give
our hearts, our faith, our lives we share--you live.
