You Will Cause Me Trouble

Leather briefcase in hand,
A tall dark man
Give me a smile
I’ll trade you for a waltz on the dock
Hold my waist and charmingly manipulate my world, pass the daisies and coo-coo clocks
And box step into the crows and forget-me-nots
You will cause me trouble

Sing a song for me or the dust on the leaves
Encourage my blame
Encourage my hysteria
Let my thoughts bleed to places they don’t belong
Offer me my own jacket
A peace offering that will cost you nothing,
But it’ll make me blush and feel wanted
You will cause me trouble

Oh, a fool I am, scared by shadows that I own
But you handed me a gun and warned me they weren’t kin but demons
I liked you better when you were a stranger
Don’t give me your smile
You will cause me trouble
