Your Secret

I look at you and I can tell
something's going on.
I don't know what.
I can't read minds.
Your eyes tell a story
I can't comprehend.
Your breath is steady but slow, depressed.
You look and smile and laugh
but deep down inside something,
a secret, is locked away tight.
I think you've lost the key.
I will help you if you tell, I say.
It kills you and saddens you
but you will not tell.
Why? I ask.
You look at me
and your eyes seem to say
no, I can't tell you
because it's my secret.
I plead and I beg.
You do not flinch.
Instead you say
No. No. No.
It's my secret
and I will not tell you
My secret.
