A Contemporary Psalm (Quarantined in the midst of a pandemic)

Though we cannot see the enemy,
he lurks around every corner
trying to latch onto us and multiply,
seeking to suck the breath out of us.

God, save us from this evil
whose origins are wicked and deceitful.
Do not give him power over us
as fear and despair abound.

Lies and slander come
constantly from the left
and sometimes,
even from the right.

We hide day and night
scrubbing away the evil
no one can see.
Death knocks at the door.

Even still God, I will praise you,
the God of mercy and love
Who sits on the throne of grace
waiting for the sweet incense of His people.

Shine your light into the dark places.
Let your people rejoice.
You shall crush the enemy
and raise up a strong nation.

Let us shout for joy as evil
will be defeated.
Health and vitality
will reclaim the land.
