Beyond the Smiles

By Sena

Waking up to your beautiful cry
Mom holding your fragile, little body
I would watch your tiny eyes widen in curiosity
Your little fingers wrapped around my thumb
Holding you, cherishing minutes before school
December 11, 2007 to January 18, 2008
The horrible day still fresh in my mind
Getting pulled from school early, confused
Seeing mom with red eyes
Not thinking anything of it
Going to Auntie's house seeing the whole family
Asking where you were, searching for you
To find out my 1 month baby brother has passed
Crying for hours, knowing your in a better place now
Taken from this world at a young age
leaving one picture behind
Your cold lifeless body, no emotion
No longer, waking up to your beautiful cry.

This Poems Story

This poem is about my youngest brother. He was killed at one month old. I wrote this a few years after the incident.
