Dear One

i don't know where you're going,
and i don't care where you've been,
the only thing that matters,
is the day where we begin.

the snow had to be at least,
three feet deep maybe even more,
it was kind of funny,
when i saw you at my door.

soaking wet from head two toe,
you looked so frail to me,
with that thin wet coat, you had,
i had to let you in.

as you warmed up to me,
i couldn't stop the grin.
with that face and golden hair,
where could i begin

as i told you all about,
this house that i had built,
the more i warmed to you,
as we shared my favorite quilt.

the time it seemed to fly by,
as i held you near,
gently oh so gently,
i'd stroke you golden hair.

and as the sun was rising,
shedding us with its first light,
to me, it didn't seem strange,
that together we'd spent the night.

now i write this for you dear one,
so everyone will know,
your the best four-legged friend,
I've found in the snow.
