December

By Ess Cee

The broken finger nail of a fractured smile
A million little pieces, fractals of a face…
I swear it rocks back and forth
Mocking me
Forcing my knee
It yearns for the feel of my boundless pine
It rocks back and forth, opaque and obtuse.
Cold, noir mass where the comfort of the hand which rocks a cradle should be.
It’s not a Cheshire Cat’s smile.
Nor the torn minute piece of a stranger’s hands stolen, lying betwixt coiling, spiraled and sprawling fingers of enchantress craving a hex or two.
My eyes become wide as I feel the moon.
Things are not always what they seem…unfortuitous, the pale, cratered gaze staring back at me, is cloaked by a familiarity i fear as it cracks and falls in a deafening silent scream.
My world is ending, the moon is, always has been…you.
Why can’t you feel me?
Why don’t you want to?
My knee bleeds life force you once bestowed into me, now I drain, I languish in red silked pain.
I turn to stone waiting until the laced white vail of snow smothers the remains of my December red embers, dying out in a smoke show.
The smolder, rising steam of winter’s once cheery burning coals, gently lift me, carry me away. I look back one last time, the embers slow, give up the fight leaving a weak garnet faded hole.
My world is ending. Before I’m small, as I float higher to the stratosphere, a flash of you pierces me from the death of the embers now jaded and cold. I remember that once warm night in December, you, like a mirror held up to my soul,
December embers, I once felt rocked by you, held gently and feeling whole.
Silent screams fall on deaf ears.
I want you, I no longer am heard.
You dissaparated me, left me the kite but now I lose you, my tether.
Forever I scream your name, dear tether.
But you cannot feel my weeping, now vapored tremors,
December embers, my love…
You’re no longer here.
