Discerning Imperfections

Hurt and pain wash over me,
as your words echo in my mind.
No matter all the good I try to do,
Its always the faults you will find.
I will always be a disappointment.
A burden to you I will always be.
It has taken so long for me to learn,
to love myself and finally forgive me.
I have become petrified by anger.
More than terrified to let you down.
I resist to let my walls break apart,
And for you to see my tarnished crown.
I share my secrets with less than few,
and so many of them have only proved,
they will stab my back for their gain.
Therefore the trust I had is removed.
I will no longer believe I can speak,
and can no longer let strangers in.
For I have seen the worst side in life,
and know I am safer when hidden within.
