Lay down your pen

As I drew the curve
with the stroke of my pen,
forgiveness stepped in
uncalled for right then.

The blow I received
went straight through my heart
and left a deep scar
which rent me apart.

I thought of revenge
as my soul came undone
but I remembered the love
of a mother for her son.

I looked at the cross,
heard a voice like no other,
"Woman behold your son,
son behold your mother."

This Poems Story

Someone said something to the poet who hurt him deeply. In the Bible it says that the tongue holds the power of life and death. What was said to him felt like death. He wanted to put pen to paper and exact retribution on the person very close to him but he remembered his beloved mother and his Beloved Saviour.
