Letting go

Letting go of you..
Has been the hardest challenge

We clung to each other like the lettering on the Grave stones that would soon become home to our human interaction

I fell easily into your arms in the back of your beat up car, listening to Ani and believing this fairytale would never end

Every glance we exchanged led to butterflies in the arboretum of my ribcage

Love led to fear led to heartbreak led to strangers

I sat in the purgatory of my mind, battling with conviction blanketed on by others judgements

You filled my heart and soul with pergolas of flowers identical to the ones where we shared our most intimate thoughts

You taught me the meaning of soul mate in a way I couldn't fully comprehend but painfully grew to understand

wooded pews splintered my reaction with rules and conviction etched into my being from constant repition

I ran from you until blisters filled my toes, every last petal fell from the lattice, and roots appeared too dry for rebirth

blisters faded and rain infultrated the deeply rooted seeds as I walked through the deserted parks you once led me through

Standing in front of the desolate amphitheater, notes gathered and music slowly filled my deepest wounds

I ran once more; to every memory we once cherished, finding foreclosure signs at every gate

I sprinted until blistered toes turned to calloused pride; selfish expectations that your pergolas still listed me a tenant

Letting go of you has been the hardest challenge; my garden now so overgrown it suffocates my every breathe
