Love vs the void

By Melmond

I had forgotten what new love felt like...
To feel every cell in your body firing,
Tingling non-stop, all at the same time.
Unimaginable bliss.

It was as if God touched me.
But still different than that,
For I have felt those brief waves too,
But she is mortal.

If you’d have asked me in that moment,
I’d have told you clearly,
Tennyson was right about -
“Better to have lived and loved.”

Today though, I stand on the other side.
The utter emptiness returned.
The void I was largely ignorant of,
Before this all began.

Still, it was neither stupid, foolish nor imagined.
It was real. More real than... everything.
And I know - that makes no sense...
Unless you’ve been there.

(I put this down in words now
To remind myself later on;
When I will no doubt try to
Convince myself otherwise).

So now... staring into the void...
I ask myself again, wasTennyson right?
Despite the pain, despite the loss and
Intense heartache - I think... yes.

At least I know I am alive - so long as my last tear has not yet fallen.
