Monachopsis
I move my body slightly
I’m the extraterrestrial to those around me
I take three steps
Introducing myself again
Their whispers leading to my bleeding ears
On the verge of death
I wear no mask
I wear no mask of shame
Upfront I make my move
I’m disliked for being new
POC.Unique Style.Loc’d hair.
I walk through the walls
The building currently on fire
Their gaze forever lingering on my body from the top to the bottom
Analyzing me
“She seems………… out of place”
Is it the sun-kissed antennas on my head or the rich tone of my voice?
I want to shriek at them all of them
I can’t go where they are going their path too commonly known
While they walk on the broken cobblestone of the yellow brick road
I take the train in my ruby red heels away from the silence
I need noise unlawful noise
The way I was raised and where I was brought up is the other side of the coin I’m both elated and confused on why it was even flipped
I try to be nice and connect to other people yet the oxygen I was breathing from was slowly getting poisoned by the ones I thought were kind
On this side of the planet everyone knows everything about each other
I immediately wanted to leave the air they were slowly changing from my own was sickening
So I ripped the tubes out and peeled off my skin since I wasn’t comfortable
This form this form was the only one I have ever lived in
In that moment I wanted to be ceased from existence
I didn’t want to go back to my old planet
Hell is the place I call my own mind
I thought it would be alright with the divorce, the move, the other family the part of me I never knew was mine
Now I want to be erased from humanities minds
I’m the extraterrestrial to those around me
I take three steps
Introducing myself again
Their whispers leading to my bleeding ears
On the verge of death
I wear no mask

Monachopsis is the subtle but persistent feeling of being out of place.I have always felt this way as if I never belonged in this world from the moment I was born.Jealousy is a feeling I wish I could connect to instead of longing for something more out of this world and the people in it.I wrote this poem as a way to express my feelings of instability, chaos, and quiet despair.I rarely ever speak about my struggles yet it’s easier to write it down.
