Moon Child
They say she was born from the ocean,On the crest of a moon dappled wave.
A fisherman found her come morning,
And took her into his family to raise.
Her skin white as moonlight,
Stardust scattered in her eyes.
Her hair blacker than a moonless night.
She was fairer than the twilight sky.
As she grew, her beauty only deepened.
She became sickly if she left the shore,
She spent many nights weeping,
As she sang to the moon above.
The fishermen loved her more than his life,
And wished he could heal her sorrow.
But there was something about her, not quite right,
For her smile never reached her eyes.
One eve, at the time just before light,
The fisherman awoke to the sound of the door,
She had left the house for the shore.
She glowed pale in the full moons light,
And she walked right down to the waves.
She didn't stop when she reached them,
But walked straight into the depths,
The fisherman ran to where she had been,
But the waters had swallowed her whole.
She was born from the ocean, but in the end,
She came back to her again.
