Sailing the Oceans

Waking in the day’s obscure
i stretch and twist to get out the kinks
packing lunch and take some drinks
to ready ourselves for leisure.

we commute the sloop to a dock
cranking the hitch it glides off the trailer
i jump right in, today i’m a sailor
Ahoy the sol as the seagulls flock.

going to the bow the jib i hoisted
secure the rest of the rigging i heed
drifting slowly to a brisk rolling sea
“hail there matey,” at boaters i boisted

so many masts prick the skies
color of the billows float on the horizon
as they gulp the breeze and fully bloat
to tote our vessel pass others lives

the day has now become a race
i man the rudder to stay on course
catamarans and schooners, force
us to tack and turn to keep on pace.

many of us grouped together
like a regatta on the move
something we just had to prove
into the twilight we’ll sail forever

while all the others headed home
we continued our unplanned journey
to show ourselves strong and sturdy
all the oceans and seas we’ll comb.
