Sleep Dreams*

Before i sleep I close my eyes
to thee oh god my thoughts arise,
when i lay me down to sleep
i pray the night my soul to keep,
keep me safe throughout the night
that i may taste the morning light
tucked in bed so nice and tight
i think about where i'll go tonight.

When i dream, i leave this world
so snug inside then become unfurled
in this new plane i honestly feel
my sub-conscience is unmistakably real,
i enter into this altered state
life eternal when i'm not awake
the brain takes over and spins its wheel
where does it land and what will it steal?

My mind records the events i've lived
soul's the editor taking out what i give
like a burglar who chances the night
becoming a thief in this external life
stories are chopped into little vignettes
placed out of sequence, my dreams are set,
tip toeing shadow enlarged on the wall
when i awake is this i’ll recall?

Running and running or maybe i'll stay
i have no control the mind's gone astray
floating up high like a balloon in flight
tossing, turning, i deal with my plight,
fluttering my arms like gossamer wings
flipping and floating and flying of all things
then a different scene interrupts my set
i run into a woman not thinking we've met.

lying in a cushioned field of grass
it was my love from years long passed,
now being chased by a swarm of bees
and eerie dark shadows running after me,
all of a sudden off a cliff falling down
my body jolts up before i hit the ground.
my essence forced back to a conscious state.
exhaling a deep heavy sigh, i sat wide awake

It was only a dream, but dreams are real
exposing my thoughts and all that i feel
tired head on my pillow, going back to sleep
trying to recapture that lost love i seek,
drifting off, could i rerun that scene?
desperate to grab the love i had seen,
but when morning came and i tasted the light
vision floated away, forever lost in the night.

This Poems Story

It\'s weird, sometimes how real a dream may feel. That it makes me think that it really is. I have sometimes caught myself answering a question or saying something to someone, when all of a sudden i wake up, finding myself verbally answering as i awake, finishing the statement when i\'m no longer sleeping. And the person i was answering, or talking to is nowhere around.
