The Kindest Good Bye

I loved him deeply—
not with possession,
but with a heart brave enough
to face its own storm.

I saw how my edges
brushed too sharply
against the quiet
he was aching to find.

He needed calm,
and I—
I was weather.
A beautiful mess
of lightning and longing.

So I let him go,
not out of weakness,
but because love,
real love,
sometimes means stepping aside.

Not every soul we meet
is ours to keep—
some arrive only
to teach us
how to release
with grace.

And though it broke me,
I did not beg,
did not hold on.
I simply loved him enough
to want him whole—
even if that meant
he had to heal without me.
