The Suicide King

The deck of cards on the desk
laid out in a peculiar way...
all face down except the King of Love
who was looking the opposite way.

then i picked him up and asked him
“why he was the only king to do it?”

he thoughtfully stared with cold piercing eyes
as he said to me:
“It’s for you to see, ‘cause as for me,
there surely is no doubt!”

now with the all the cards of royalty
evenly displayed in front of me
i was able to easily see,
so i went to the king and told him,
“that his wife loved his son Jack more than he.”

while during the time i was talking
he somehow slipped out of my hand,
landing face down
he turned on the ground
saying to me, “now you see.”

then i shuffled him back into the deck
realizing it could be true.

wondering sometimes about myself,
‘could i ever lose myself over love?
honestly, i don’t think so
but who really knows?
some say... it’s in the cards.

This Poems Story

A silly story about a deck of cards. I found it interesting, when i laid out the picture cards of hearts, both to the right and to the left, starting with the King (also known as the suicide King), it kind of told a story. Why is the King of Hearts the only King in the deck that has a sword through his head? Hearts = Love. So obviously, i interpreted it as him killing himself over Love. So the story began.
