Throne Of Lament

My eyes open with a start
Wandering aimlessly through the dark
What can they find
That was not there before
What is it that compels them
Past my chamber door
Something that lies beyond
The solace of its confine
Something sinister I cannot define
Though all is misshapen
Here in this late hour
As though shadows danced off some great tower
Where in mysteries await a coward
Yet their sullen call I shall devour
What seems to be the purpose here
Of such pondering is not yet clear
My eyes take to the night
To bring my fears alive
Is it the monsters that may lurk
Hiding their forms within the murk
Waiting for time to provide
A moment to take what is mine
Though they shall be quite sour
To see my patience naught at this late hour
I long for what has eluded me so
My darkened mind where my thoughts grow
Yet I am detached from my peace
By the pandering of some lowly beast
No creatures yet of which I dreamed
Just fragments of what it seemed
Upon my life I sensed most foul
A predators stalking prowl
What refuge should I take
Now that I lay here awake
Feeling the hunger of such a fiend
Awaiting its ghastly scheme
Will it scour my flesh from the bone
Drag me off to die alone
These thoughts banter in my brain
Of such madness in which I reign
Though I am not to be deceived
For all is not as I believed
The purity of silence still
Does not embrace me with its thrill
Instead a foreboding suspense
Of a collective offense
Now one bairn awakes
And my sanity forsakes
Restless stirring to my surprise
My only hope for slumber sadly dies
In this misery I have gained a friend
A game of wit without end
This battle of wills that cannot bend
Of broken echoes that will not mend
This nights grasping cold
Entices me to be bold
As daylight breaks
I revel in mistakes
Precious moments without
The clarity to conceal my doubt
Surrender I must to my fate
For now the hour is beyond late
Time cycles back to begin
Void of embrace
Impose a foe
For reasons I am sure to know
As the light will move through the day
It will be my mind that did betray
So brash it had become
In routine my thoughts overrun
Had my hand its own eyes
Horizons could align
A truth to define
But in madness I am baptized
I must now ascend this throne of lament
For the comfort that once called has went
