Too beautiful a thing
Why does such a beautiful thing
like love, cause so much pain?
Why does such a beautiful thing
like love, always leave a stain?
it can turn the bluest skies
into a tornado's wind
destroying every time it touches down.
what's the reason of an unknowing hand
as it bounces over naked land?
for the emptiness of what is left
frightens even the strongest wall
so what kind of chance does love have
as it walks carefully down narrow halls?
i wish to see behind
all the doors i see
before reaching the end
but as it seems
from open doors i’ve seen,
i might be walking too slow
to be more than loving friends.
for it occurs to me
that acquaintances and friendship doors
are easy enough to open, if i want to,
but those obscure closets of love
are constantly closed and locked to me.
Love is too beautiful
to cause so much pain,
Love’s too beautiful a thing
to leave such a stain.
but it sure as hell does.
like love, cause so much pain?
Why does such a beautiful thing
like love, always leave a stain?
it can turn the bluest skies
into a tornado's wind
destroying every time it touches down.
what's the reason of an unknowing hand
as it bounces over naked land?
for the emptiness of what is left
frightens even the strongest wall
so what kind of chance does love have
as it walks carefully down narrow halls?
i wish to see behind
all the doors i see
before reaching the end
but as it seems
from open doors i’ve seen,
i might be walking too slow
to be more than loving friends.
for it occurs to me
that acquaintances and friendship doors
are easy enough to open, if i want to,
but those obscure closets of love
are constantly closed and locked to me.
Love is too beautiful
to cause so much pain,
Love’s too beautiful a thing
to leave such a stain.
but it sure as hell does.
