Unfettered
Bitter realization gives way to
Exquisite truth, and I see
That I didn't shackle myself
To foul, unending misery...
My hands are free to grasp
Feverishly at clawing branches,
My bruised feet to wander
Toward promised bliss,
Fragments of what was float
Ashen on the air, a kiss
To parched skin, and I smile
Because they are no longer
Sharp.
Exquisite truth, and I see
That I didn't shackle myself
To foul, unending misery...
My hands are free to grasp
Feverishly at clawing branches,
My bruised feet to wander
Toward promised bliss,
Fragments of what was float
Ashen on the air, a kiss
To parched skin, and I smile
Because they are no longer
Sharp.
