A Little Secret
I’ll let you in on a little secret,
That life only means what you choose to make it.
That Everyone’s racing, but that there is no real winner,
When we will all be sitting at the same table,
Eating worms for dinner.
I’ll let you in on this little secret,
That there really is no shiny golden ticket.
Look- see the swaying trees and the clouds forming above,
Can you remember the animal in you,
And feel that deep instinct to love?
Know your only job ever was to breathe in the air,
To fill your lungs deep without needing to care.
To bathe in the mist on a summer’s eve,
To huddle by a warm fire with someone you need.
To pick wild flowers, skip smooth rocks,
To lose whole hours and forget the alarm clock.
To laugh with friends till your chest feels sore,
To think just enough, but never more.
I’ll let you in on this little truth,
That you can run forever, and it’s up to you.
That there’s a recklessness burning inside your soul,
So why are you so eager to beg to be controlled?
And finally I’ll finish with this,
That you’re not behind, and that you never were-
You’re alive right now, and forgetting that
Would only make you God's biggest fool.
