A Poor Man’s Faith
Every day an old man labored on my farmThrough sweltering heat and back breaking work, he plowed with utmost gusto
At lunch, he took refuge under a shaded tree and consumed his peasant meal
Then with a bright smile on his face, he took a quick siesta
On awakening, he instantly unfolded and primed for another strenuous day
I said to myself, how can this aged field worker grin with such vibrancy?
While I have all the wealth and luxury and still fight loneliness and despair
Then on a dark day, I solicited how a farmhand can dwell in such happiness
He replied, “For I walk this earth for the soul of God and not for frivolous things"
Like the lightning above, his elegy struck me deeply
I sought to absorb more of this holy erudition
For the land baron suddenly turned student and the land worker the teacher
