A song for Nigeria
Alas I sing,
For my fatherland
It is not hope I bring
To this spoilt land
Where are the young and able bodied,
The future of the country?
Why must it be the frail bodied,
Who string things on their shoulder?
Civilians owe militants
But my civilians pay with fear
Instead of a song of thanks,
A dance of sorrow we share
What happened to the educated?
Why are the illiterates in power?
The youths are eradicated
The dying rule the hour
Great blind greed moves men
Men of power and status
A great nation they shackle
And put us under feet
For my fatherland
It is not hope I bring
To this spoilt land
Where are the young and able bodied,
The future of the country?
Why must it be the frail bodied,
Who string things on their shoulder?
Civilians owe militants
But my civilians pay with fear
Instead of a song of thanks,
A dance of sorrow we share
What happened to the educated?
Why are the illiterates in power?
The youths are eradicated
The dying rule the hour
Great blind greed moves men
Men of power and status
A great nation they shackle
And put us under feet
