Adults
I didn't know adults could be wrongWhen they were brainwashing me all along.
As I age
I get bursts of rage
Asking myself why I didn't know any better.
They tell me to feel shamed
And I'm the only one to blame
For what happened to me as a child.
In reality
Why are they defending the mentality
That this brutality
Should be blamed on the one who is suffering?
This is what scares other victims
This twisted, fucked up system
That us Americans call "society."
I should have told someone
But I was scared I would be shunned
Which is exactly what happened.
Now I'm speaking out
And there's no doubt
That I'm going to use my strength to help others.
The more people try to take my words
The more I try to be heard
Try to stop me if you can.
This Poems Story
I was raised by my parents in an upper-middle class city. Nobody wants to have the kid that was raped so whenever I tried to ask for help or even just talk about it, they would find a way to sweep it under the rug and act like it was no big deal. I'm eighteen years old now and it's taken me five years to realize that keeping quiet about this is not what you need to do. The victim shouldn't be looked down upon or scared into silence. Trust me, the only one messed up, is society.
