After Dark

The cricket is chirping in the darkness.
It sounds loud, fades, and slowly stops.
Begins again and starts to hum.
Fades away until there is none.
I hear a duck quaking over the chirp.
It’s so dark; this is bizarre. Now, from the street, I hear a car.
In the air, a plane goes by.
I hear a jet up in the sky.
As I sit, I hear a bark.
All of this is after dark.
