As you Go

As you go

You're taking steps away from me
into your future, I can't see

Except in second-hand rewind
when you talk to me, just to be kind

You're making plans to breathe and live
apart from me, less love to give

I see you now at the edge of gone and here
like watching sailboats sail too far away my dear.

I wanted to anchor you in place
you always outran me in any race

So far behind I cannot bridge the gap between our hearts
so sorrow starts.

As you go you take the best of me
my heart of hearts, the calmness of a quiet sea.

In place of living love you give me words that never can
take the place of you -- this man.

As you go and I stay planted and in place
Unchanged, remembering your heart your arms your face

I wonder not just why I have to let you go
but how is what I really want to know?

I determine to find a boat too
and sail right after you

As you go you need to know
No one will ever take your place and so

As you go and I stay here my love unchanged
Just adjusted, rearranged

Lovers leave with crash and more
never do they tiptoe out the door.

Each silence deafens, each non-kiss is an attack
every heartbeat says you're never coming back.

This time as you go
I love you and that's all you need to know.
