Assurance
I lay my head down to sleep,
Always a wonder what the next day will bring.
Will I awaken to clear blue skies,
Birds chirping outside my window,
The sun continually rising high?
Or will my eyes open to find
Stormy clouds on the horizon nigh?
The saying goes,
"Red skies at night,
Sailors delight;
Red skies in morning,
Sailors take warning."
If it's true what they say,
The night before the morrow
Gives hints of the following day,
How then to prepare oneself
For the uncertainty each day brings,
In light of every passing possibility?
Am I to heed the ol' phrase
And expect doom on a scarlet morning,
Or take delight in a red skied night,
Checking the heavens
With the rising and setting of the sun
For how my day is to be done?
How inconsistent life then would be!
No surety to be seen.
A greater anchor must be sought,
In the Lord, hope given
And freedom to hope bought,
A hope that never fails
And causes deep rest in my Father's arms.
No safer place could there be,
My stronghold, my fortress assuredly.
Always a wonder what the next day will bring.
Will I awaken to clear blue skies,
Birds chirping outside my window,
The sun continually rising high?
Or will my eyes open to find
Stormy clouds on the horizon nigh?
The saying goes,
"Red skies at night,
Sailors delight;
Red skies in morning,
Sailors take warning."
If it's true what they say,
The night before the morrow
Gives hints of the following day,
How then to prepare oneself
For the uncertainty each day brings,
In light of every passing possibility?
Am I to heed the ol' phrase
And expect doom on a scarlet morning,
Or take delight in a red skied night,
Checking the heavens
With the rising and setting of the sun
For how my day is to be done?
How inconsistent life then would be!
No surety to be seen.
A greater anchor must be sought,
In the Lord, hope given
And freedom to hope bought,
A hope that never fails
And causes deep rest in my Father's arms.
No safer place could there be,
My stronghold, my fortress assuredly.
