Cruel war
I am a little girl
My daddy has gone to war.
What used to be a merry home
Isn’t anymore.
Mother never sings
And I’m not allowed to weep.
Oh, how I wish I could see my daddy
Coming down the street.
I can remember a time
When all was well and right,
How both of my parents would
hold me close and both would hold me tight.
When will this cruel war be over?
Will it ever end?
Will I ever see my poor daddy again?
My daddy has gone to war
But I will be brave,
Thinking of the last time
We both hugged and waved.
My daddy has gone to war.
What used to be a merry home
Isn’t anymore.
Mother never sings
And I’m not allowed to weep.
Oh, how I wish I could see my daddy
Coming down the street.
I can remember a time
When all was well and right,
How both of my parents would
hold me close and both would hold me tight.
When will this cruel war be over?
Will it ever end?
Will I ever see my poor daddy again?
My daddy has gone to war
But I will be brave,
Thinking of the last time
We both hugged and waved.
