Cruise Control

I’ve been working way too hard
for way too long
Just trying to pay my bills
Still climbing these hills
And when I get home
My wife barely says hello
Before my head hits the pillow
And just like that

I’m hopping from island to island
Drinking martinis watching girls in bikinis
Chowing down on a ham, beef, shrimp, lobster, tuna, chicken salad
Scuba diving in an ocean full of beer
Without a fear
Because the sharks don’t bite
The turtles don’t snap
And the fish don’t fight
Everything is alright
So don’t be callin me
Because I’ve got it on cruise control

Out of nowhere the sky got gray
The ship began to rock
The rain started to fall
Lightning struck and then I woke up
The kids were bouncing on the couch
Shooting water guns in my face
Spilling alphabet soup all over the place
I ran into the den
There was paper work up to my chin
But it didn’t look much like fun
So I laid my head down
And just like that

Debris was flying everywhere
Lightning struck and then I woke up
There were papers lying on the floor
The children were laughing
But all I wanted to do was cry
My boss called to yell at me some more
And I don’t even know what for
When I got off the phone I said hallelujah
Silence at last
I laid my head back down
And just like that
