Father
Small hands clasp at alabaster clouds indefinitely
Translucent and silent screams
A thunder echoing where no one can see
Cherry red skin that had been burnt
Not by heat, but the feelings of abandonment.
Knowing someone can't love, can hurt
No physical pain can compare
To the incurable pain inside
My torment lain bare.
A small child's plea for love and attention,
Met with a tragic ending
A young woman who cannot receive affection
Translucent and silent screams
A thunder echoing where no one can see
Cherry red skin that had been burnt
Not by heat, but the feelings of abandonment.
Knowing someone can't love, can hurt
No physical pain can compare
To the incurable pain inside
My torment lain bare.
A small child's plea for love and attention,
Met with a tragic ending
A young woman who cannot receive affection

This Poems Story
This is a poem about a distinct memory I have from my childhood...the moment I realized that my father could never love me enough to be there for me. I had seen him at a huge dance recital I had been apart of, and he made promises to never disappoint me again. A short time later, he was back in prison. The night I found out was the first night I started to silently cry myself to sleep every night. Sometimes, I still do. Even at 26.
