Otter Creek

Willows weep at the edge of the creek
The lily pads standing by their side
Reaching, but never touching each other
Caressing the top of the water
To comfort the bubbling stream flowing
And disappearing under the bridge

As I leaned against the gazebo
I quietly peer out at the creek
This place gives my spirit time to rest
The safe haven from sun, rain, or snow
It's the halfway point in my journey
Where I query the earth about life

Except for one spring night every year
When a trail of destruction is had
Stiletto punctures cover the grass
Sparsity of the willows vines made
No longer able to weep or reach
Destroyed for pics that all look the same

This Poems Story

This is about my favorite place growing up. It was usually empty, except for when prom time came. People always took prom pictures there, despite not a single person caring about maintaining its beauty.
