Driving Me Nuts

I thought I knew this world pretty well
I thought we got along just swell
But now everything I thought I new
Has turned out not to be true
The friends that do what they say there gonna do
Have turned out to be the ones who lie to you
They say there gonna meet me at the mall
But they don’t even give me a call
I promise I’ll take you to the game
It turns out to be just more of the same
Oh what a shame

Why can’t we all
Just get along
Sing a happy song
Lend a helping hand
Make somebody feel good again
Because right now all I see
Are squirrels and chipmunks
Cashews, almonds, pecans
I’m crackin up
Because this world is driving me nuts

Why does everybody have to be so uptight
Trying to start a fight
I never thought I’d see the day
When love became hate
Hate became love
Wrong is right
Right is wrong
Up is down
Down is up
I just don’t understand
It’s like were drowning in quicksand

Why can’t we all
Just get along
Sing a happy song
Lend a helping hand
Make somebody feel good again
Because right now all I see
Are squirrels and chipmunks
Cashews, almonds, pecans
I’m crackin up
And this world is driving me nuts

My momma always told me
To stand up and fight for what’s right
But whenever I do
I get yelled at
I get cussed out
I’m told to shut my mouth
Sit my butt back down
Stop acting like a clown
But this is America
The land of the free
So I’m gonna say what I want to say

Why can’t we all
Just get along
Sing a happy song
Lend a helping hand
Make somebody feel good again
Because right now all I see
Are squirrels and chipmunks
Cashews, almonds, pecans
I’m crackin up
Because this world is driving me nuts
