From a Grieving Daddy
Mommy and daddy wanted you to be happy now we just hurt too
Some people would look at us and say you were just a cat
But to mommy and daddy you were more than that
You were our princess and we loved you more
Than any mommy and daddy could love but we are sore
From all the grieving and sadness, we feel right now
A knot in our throat and it feels as big as a cow
I want you to know that we both feel
That we will do everything that we can to begin to heal
And move on from this tragedy that has struck
Us with such a force that felt like that of a giant truck
And we know that you are now in a better place
But that does not keep us from this empty space
In our heart that is as wide as the Grand Canyon is
And as much as we are going to miss
You as we move on from but know we will see you soon
When we get old and die we will go beyond the moon
We love you and miss you more than you ever could know
You were a great kitty and a part of our family, so
Rest in peace Sambo and run in heaven forever
You are in our hearts and we love and miss you more than ever.
This Poems Story
I have ben writing poems for almost 20 years. I entered in a poetry slam in the 8th grade and really enjoyed sharing my poems. Although my team did not win, I had fun. Now I am 31 years old adnd write poetry as an escape. I express my feelings best in poetry. I have written about a dozen poems for my wife of five years, to include ones when we were dating and our engagement night, Christmas 2011 when I popped the question. This poem I wrote two days after my cat died driving across country to Washington. Enjoy!
