Frozen Flames

The fire that is burning,
it is all around me,
the flames try to touch me
the heat is almost too much.
The dark sky is lit up bright
it is almost day,
but it is only the flames
lighting my way.
The flames are almost pretty
I want to feel the touch—
to feel the burning sensation,
but I do not reach out.
The flames dance around me
trying to engulf me,
maybe they wish to make me a part of the fire.
The cold that is around me
it feels just like ice;
it is brisk
and it is cold.
Every breath that I take
I am gasping from the cold,
the ice that surrounds me
it has frozen me where I stand.
Everything that I touch
It burns me like fire,
It chills me like ice.
