Hear Me Out
Is it not what we are taught: to raise our hands before we speak.
How are we to speak if we cannot breathe?
What freedom do we have if our voice cannot be heard?
My hands are up! I pose no threat.
I am not resisting only persisting you hear me out.
No chance to talk it out.
Because a choke hold was the only option to hear me cry out:
I can't breathe! "Stop resisting!"
No I am only persisting you hear me out, "I cant breathe."
I Just want you to understand me, and why I speak.
I am here ready to express and not to lecture.
For I am not on somebody's platform but here in this street.
For I am not on nobody's billboard but in these streets.
For the beat is no just of my own,
But of millions around the world who chose to speak.
My hands are up! I pose no threat.
Just hear me out without doubt, without fear.
Don't suffocate me but let me breathe.
Let me express my gratitude as I raise my hands
Because I trust in you to just trust in me.
Hear me out.
My hands are up!
I pose no threat!
--I am me--
This Poems Story
My name is Justin Gordon, twenty-eight years old, and born in the beautiful city of San Francisco. I am the youngest of four boys. I wrote my first poem in seventh grade and even since then I fell in love with the power of words and admired all those who chose to speak in such a creative way. Every day I grew and began to look at the world in a different light and decided I would make a difference in someone's life. I am me!
