Helena

But there I was,
Staring at a casket that would soon be buried
beneath the dust of other lost loves,
wishing that I could join you.

To be within the dirt and the death
buried with our past and our present,
suffocating under the weight of moments
we never got, that would be my preferred ending.

With you - now, and always,
forever, in the most literal sense of the word.
Anything to escape the reality unfolding around me -
Now I am just a man, just skin and bones, with a heart that
beats for nothing.

I know, already, what you would say -
Things are better if I stay. And then
You'd wish me so long, and goodnight,
and I almost hear it in the air while they lower you down.
