Hotel Phoenix
The classics cars gather
In the growing shadows,
The debutantes sprawl
In the passenger seat
As the drivers shift
Around the standard pace
Leaving behind the average base
And playing up the watershed moment.
As the rain peals off the windshield,
The convertibles raise their roofs
And the hum of the engines
Melt into the landscape
Like so much gravel
As a sideroad leads up the riveted coast
To the Hotel Phoenix
In the growing shadows,
The debutantes sprawl
In the passenger seat
As the drivers shift
Around the standard pace
Leaving behind the average base
And playing up the watershed moment.
As the rain peals off the windshield,
The convertibles raise their roofs
And the hum of the engines
Melt into the landscape
Like so much gravel
As a sideroad leads up the riveted coast
To the Hotel Phoenix
