In Mixed Company
Like a shoulder dipping
In a working motion,
The clavicle lifting
In a shifting erosion;
That's the thing about an effort,
It never stops.
It plateaus as it sputters
And emerges in shots,
Leaving us waiting
For a just reward,
Coupling, indicating
When to keep score,
Arching all the while
In a bitter reprise
Of the noted surmise,
Emoting, at ease.
In a working motion,
The clavicle lifting
In a shifting erosion;
That's the thing about an effort,
It never stops.
It plateaus as it sputters
And emerges in shots,
Leaving us waiting
For a just reward,
Coupling, indicating
When to keep score,
Arching all the while
In a bitter reprise
Of the noted surmise,
Emoting, at ease.
