Insomnias\' Grip
Now I lay me down to sleep and rest my weary head.
I lay awake alone at night in this cold and empty bed.
Insomnia has taken hold and strangles out my sleep.
I watch the walls as darkness falls and shadows begin to creep.
With heavy eyes that will not close I begin to go insane.
I see images of awful things begin to flood my brain.
I know in truth they are not real, but illusions that will crowd.
These hateful things that let me know that sleep is not allowed.
I toss and turn, kick off my sheets and scream inside my mind.
I struggle still, hunting down the rest I can not find.
I finally drift off to sleep, rest coming for my sake.
But it was futile, the sun now rises, it is time for me to wake.
Another restless night has passed and I am still alone.
Tomorrow is another night and I am weary to the bone.

I struggle with insomnia. I have struggled with it for most of my life. One night, while trying to fall asleep, this poem started in my head. Instead of sleeping, I wrote the words onto paper. This poem is about my struggle.
