Kindness in the City

I wake to thunder, morning so black
The day ahead already heavy on my back

Walking down the streets, dirty, and wet
Like Gotham City in a comic book sketch

Moving ahead, looking through the crowd
A chance to find some common ground
Some human contact, a smile, a glance
The kind of feeling that makes one turn back

Small acts of kindness that go unnoticed
As time passes by
A chance to see into a stranger's eyes

At times it seems I could slip away
Such is life on a rainy day
