Last Breath

By Charles

A lonely road, he walks alone,
The cool crisp air chilling him to the bone.
From a broken village he was forced to roam,
His one lost love, captive in deaths dome.
The leaves were rustling, the wind howling,
All around him the creatures were prowling.
To devour his flesh, they follow him close,
He feels a deep fear and jumps even as thorns grab at his clothes.
He continues on to reclaim his bride,
even if to feel her by his side one more time.
Even now as he peers through dusk's light,
He spotted the creatures and prepares to fight.
For he knew he had to bring her home,
Else he would be forced to forever roam
The beasts jump, jaws agape,
He wanted to cower like a newborn babe.
Instead he drew his blade and stood his ground,
Faced the fight without a sound.
One attacked the front, another flanked behind,
He stood strong despite swinging blind.
His swing was wide, he unfortunately missed,
he felt nothing more than deaths sweet kiss.
Reunited with his bride despite being dead,
Upset by the thought they couldn't go to the homestead.
It just goes to show, once separated by the last breath,
All are reunited again in death
