Lay me down

When you lay me down
to lie beneath the ground
i only sleep, so do not weep
there is no need to frown

when you lay me down
in a plot over the hill
remember now that somewhere
my voice can still be heard

when you lay me down
dont think that i am gone
my body died, the earthly frame
but my soul will linger on

when you lay me down
please think of me a while
and as the last dirt covers me
please leave me with a smile

when you lay me down
and the rain begins to fall
dont let your spirits dampen
just smile and stand tall

when you lay me down
and my spirit starts to fly
all i ask is no more tears from you
just kiss my lips goodbye
