Looks I Get
The looks I get are like,
Passing by, the subject of a regal parade
The kind where everyone calls your name
The looks I get are like,
Little kids, passing by the window of a candy shop
Or an assassin, drooling at an uptown gun show
When folks look at me,
They know I carry the God of law and grace
For I have nothing pretty about me
And my body is right but not divine
I am not the picture of money’s design
But they nod and acquiesce
They shift to give me place
They look me in the eye and comply
Those are the looks I get
Passing by, the subject of a regal parade
The kind where everyone calls your name
The looks I get are like,
Little kids, passing by the window of a candy shop
Or an assassin, drooling at an uptown gun show
When folks look at me,
They know I carry the God of law and grace
For I have nothing pretty about me
And my body is right but not divine
I am not the picture of money’s design
But they nod and acquiesce
They shift to give me place
They look me in the eye and comply
Those are the looks I get
